All too often-incorrect work orders reach the shop floor because engineering rules were not followed; causing late orders, wasted inventory and customer service issues. JAMS --- JAAS Advanced Manufacturing Software, Product Configurator module can help eliminate these problems. When the Product Configurator is used, the options included for the manufacturer's customer are enforced at order time. Thus, eliminating the need to predefine all possible configurations of options as unique inventory item numbers and preventing the release of materials for incorrect items.

SOLVE IT TO THE SOURCE

During order creation using MBS-Solomon Order Management module, a CSR can make sure the rules are enforced when a Configurator end item is entered. Since the Configurator is not heiracheral in nature, the end user can start with any feature/option they select. As the sales item is being configured the JAMS Product Configurator keeps a running cost and price roll up making this information available for the CSR's use. Once the item has been configured it is made available to the Order Management module for pricing and other consideration. If the JAMS Bill of Material and Production Management system is in place, a production order can be created automatically with the material configured options assigned to the right operational steps.



DRAG, DROP, AND TEST THE RULES

Prior to sales order entry time the configurator allows for creation of relationships between features and options via three types of rules. Once the rules have been established, engineering can test the item's validity by dragging the configured item to the options and rules window. The system will alert you if and why the rules are not valid. Once the rules have been validated, all items that cannot be applied are disabled and are no longer available for the current configuration.


RULES BASED

The JAMS Product Configurator is a rules based configurator. These rules fall into 3 categories; include/exclude required, quantities and dimensional. All rules are user definable and specific to the item being configured.

Include/Exclude Required Rules can be defined at the item level (required features), the feature level and the option level.

Quantity Rules can be implemented as resources supplied and resources consumed. Quantity rules can also be defined at both the feature and options levels.

Dimensional Rules can be length, width, height and weight. They can be either summed (total weight or volume cannot exceed) of can be limiters (item cannot exceed).

CONFIGURATOR and PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

The Product Configurator is fully integrated into JAMS Production Management module. In order to use configurator with production orders, the parent may have (at minimum) a JAMS BOM with one operation on it.
